>danielson – a family movie or make a joyful noise here

I just finished watching the Danielson Family movie and agree with the movies subtitle – it is joyful noise. Of course the band is known for things like the nurse outfits, (which symolize the healing  of the gospel) or the tree costume with the 9 fruits of the spirit and their quirky music. While the music and these unusual elements are important, it is family and faith that take center stage. Daniel Smith and his family make up most of the members of the various incarnations of the band. Their closeness and love is very evident.

Daniel and his family talk freely about their faith, but they are trying to make their music for everyone (not just Christians) to enjoy. One humorous section shows the band leading the crowd in a Christmas song and a couple saying they clapped afterwards and said “Hey we are clapping for Jesus, yeah and we’re jewish so that was like awkward!!!”

The music is not always accessible (OK seldom accessible) but it is original and fun.

The movie also will give you the answer to this trivia question. Which band did Sufjan Stevens play drums for?

  1. I haven’t heard about this family since I was in high school. I remember seeing them at Purple Door and being fascinated and freaked out by them all at the same time.
